VALENTINE'S DAY PSA!!! I’ve been married for seven years. I love my husband - I know I sound unappreciative, and I’d never tell him or anyone else I know this, but I really, really hate getting flowers.
I’ve never asked for flowers, and never bought any for myself. Every year, I get a dozen rose
s for Valentine’s Day, my birthday, my anniversary. The flowers are delivered to my work, where I have a small cubicle and have to clear off a place for them. I’m kind of shy, and am uncomfortable with the attention I get from others coming by and commenting on how pretty my flowers are and what a wonderful husband I have. Then, I have to deal with getting them home in the car, and trying to hold them up so water doesn’t spill all over – I strap the seatbelt around the vase, but I still have to use one hand to keep them steady for the 45 minute drive home during rush hour. In two days, they look awful, but I usually keep them for at least five days before finally throwing them away. But I thank my hubby and tell him how pretty they are…
We go shopping and I won’t buy a pair of jeans I want that cost $80 or a bedspread that’s a little more than $100 or Alexa that’s $129, because we can’t afford them. But, at the end of the month, I have to pay $100 (or more) for dead roses because he charged them, and I’m the person who pays the bills and figures out where the money’s coming from.
If you’re getting them out of some obligation, don’t.
If you’re getting them so everyone will see them and think you’re a wonderful guy, don’t.
If you’re getting them because you love her and want to do something for her that you think she’ll love, and you honestly think she’ll love flowers, then by all means... if you can afford them, go for it. (But pay for them in cash, so your wife doesn’t have to come up with the money later.)
By the way, I just received two texts – one from our florist (because I’m the contact on our account), and one from our charge card (because there was a charge that was over our normal amount), and I’m getting flowers for Valentine’s day.
(I get him a gift – electronics, tickets to sports or a concert, something he has actually asked for, or something I really think he will want. Not a tie. Plus I cook dinner and bake his favorite dessert.)

I listen to kxy all the time. I would like to tell you about meeting Garth Brooks when he was at Spring Training in Arizona back about 18 years ago. He was trying out for the San Daigo Padres and my daughter and I were there because my son-in-law was with the Padres at that time. He signed a basebal
l for me and posed for a picture. He asked my daughter where she went toschool in Okc and she said Northwest Classen. He said " you must have been the only white girl attending there." I still have the picture and the baseball.
