fits, and the rights they deserve. They were against a power corporation the Farming Company in the Salinas Valley. They were brave and fought hard. I would see them protesting on the side and see illegal aliens which did not care about our families, because theirs were in Mexico. That is the reason why Cesar Chavez made those comments, not because he disliked them but because these illegal aliens were supporting the powerful farming corporation against the Union. Cesar Chavez is a hero for all.

To The Editor:
I have contacted you concerning the incident of patient abuse that occurred on the Emergency Room Unit at O'Connor Hospital in San Jose as a serious end result of constant bullying. It is a clear subtle power manipulation and control dynamics in the workplace.
I would like to explai
n further that this serious bullying in this ER came from a particular group of staff, up to the point that it is compromising the patient care. There were serious patient safety issues in the past that were reported to the management. However, management dealt with insufficient corrective actions and this group of staff presently working who still continue to the bullying under the protection of management.
As a registered nurse, I am committed to advocate for patients and my conscience no longer able to keep my silence about the violation of patient's dignity and rights.
This is one of the clear examples of the gravity of the situation:
The incident occurred at O'Connor Hospital in the Emergency Room Unit on October 28, 2012 at midnight.
A Spanish-speaking middle-aged intoxicated person (Jose Moises Lopez, 12/07/1964) came with ambulance and San Jose police to the ED.
He was assessed by two nurses (the charge nurse and the float nurse) who subsequently placed him on restraints. The charge nurse who assessed the patient even instructed the float nurse who already documenting the restraints to DELETE it which the other nurse subsequently did.
The alleged charge nurse went so far as to instruct the ER MD on that shift NOT to do restraint order on the patient.
Security was at the bedside.
The point is that the patient was calm, cooperative, and asking for help - still placed on restraints without order and documentation. This is appalling for a grade-A hospital facility.
The patient was not at any point in time combative, physically/verbally abusive, or a threat to himself or others.
Several incidents in the emergency unit go unnoticed, unchecked, and mismanaged.
Management constantly aware but there is NO strong PRO-ACTIVE measures done for a positive change in terms of ZERO tolerance to bullying.
What management does is just to a pat on the back. The silent voices needed to be heard.
